✧ Prohibition of wearing revealing clothing

أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زُغْبَةَ الْبَصْرِيُّ عَنِ اللَّيْثِ عَنْ يَزِيدَ أَنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ حُنَيْنٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ خَاتَمِ الذَّهَبِ وَعَنْ لُبُوسِ الْقَسِّيِّ وَالْمُعَصْفَرِ وَقِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ وَأَنَا رَاكِعٌ وَكَسَانِي حُلَّةً مِنْ سِيَرَاءَ فَخَرَجْتُ فِيهَا فَقَالَ لِي «يَا عَلِيُّ لَمْ أَكْسُكَهَا لِتَلْبَسَهَا» فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى فَاطِمَةَ فَأَعْطَيْتُهَا كَأَنَّهَا تُطْوَى مَعِي فَشَقَقْتُهَا فَقَالَتْ تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكَ ابْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مَا جِئْتُ بِهِ قَالَ «نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ أَلْبَسَهَا فَالْبَسِيهَا وَاكْسِي نِسَاءَكَ»

✧ He heard Ali saying: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade me from wearing a gold ring, from wearing qassi cloth, from wearing safflower-dyed cloth, and from reciting the Quran while I am bowing. And he clothed me in a striped silk garment, so I went out wearing it. He said to me, "O Ali, I did not clothe you with it so that you would wear it." So I returned to Fatimah and gave it to her, as if she was folding it with me. When I tore it, she said, "May your hands be rubbed in dust, O son of Abu Talib! What have you brought?" He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade me from wearing it, so wear it and clothe your womenfolk with it."
