✧ Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, narrated to him saying: The daughter of Hubayrah came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with large rings of gold on her hand—thus in the book of Abu, that is, large rings. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began striking her hands. Then Fatimah entered upon me, complaining to her about what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had done to her. So Fatimah removed a gold chain from her neck and said: "This is a gift to me from Abu Hasan." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered while the chain was in her hand and said: "O Fatimah, does it please you that people will say the daughter of the Messenger of Allah has a chain of fire in her hand?" Then he left without sitting down. Fatimah sent the chain to the market, sold it, and bought a slave boy with its price—and on another occasion he said, a slave—and he mentioned a word meaning that she freed him. When he was told of that, he said: "Praise be to Allah who saved Fatimah from the Fire."
