أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَهْمِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ قَيْسٍ قَالَتْ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ زَوْجِي أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ بِطَلَاقِي وَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ بِخَمْسَةِ آصُعِ شَعِيرٍ وَخَمْسَةَ آصُعٍ مِنْ تَمْرٍ فَقُلْتُ مَا لِي غَيْرُ هَذَا وَلَا أَعْتَدُّ فِي بَيْتِكُمْ قَالَ

لَا فَشَدَدْتُ عَلَيَّ ثِيَابِي ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «كَمْ طَلَّقَكِ» قُلْتُ ثَلَاثًا قَالَ «صَدَقَ وَلَيْسَ لَكِ نَفَقَةٌ اعْتَدِّي فِي بَيْتِ ابْنِ عَمِّكِ ابْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ فَإِنَّهُ ضَرِيرُ الْبَصَرِ تُلْقِينَ ثِيَابَكِ عَنْكِ فَإِذَا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُكِ فَآذِنِينِي فَخَطَبَنِي خُطَّابٌ مِنْهُمْ مُعَاوِيَةُ وَأَبُو الْجَهْمِ» فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمَّا مُعَاوِيَةُ تَرِبٌ خَفِيفُ الْحَالِ وَأَبُو الْجَهْمِ يَضْرِبُ النِّسَاءَ أَوْ فِيهِ شِدَّةٌ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ وَلَكِنْ عَلَيْكِ بِأُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ» أَوْ قَالَ «انْكِحِي أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ»

✧ No, so I tied my clothes tightly around me, then I came to the Prophet ﷺ. He said: "How many times did he divorce you?" I said: "Three." He said: "He spoke the truth, and you have no maintenance. Observe your waiting period in the house of your cousin, Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind; you may put off your clothes there. When your waiting period ends, inform me." Then some men proposed to me, among them Mu'awiyah and Abu al-Jahm. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "As for Mu'awiyah, he is a poor man of little wealth, and Abu al-Jahm beats women—or he is harsh with women—but you should marry Usamah b. Zayd," or he said: "Marry Usamah b. Zayd."
