✧ The virtue of a woman's spending over her husband, and mentioning the differences concerning Sulaiman in the narration of Zainab in it.

أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْمُصْطَلِقِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَخِي زَيْنَبَ امْرَأَةِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ امْرَأَةِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَتْ

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ «تَصَدَّقْنَ وَلَوْ مِنْ حُلِيِّكُنَّ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلُ جَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» قَالَتْ وَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللهِ رَجُلًا خَفِيفَ ذَاتِ الْيَدِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ سَلْ لِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَيُجْزِئُ عَنِّي مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ النَّفَقَةُ عَلَى زَوْجِي وَأَيْتَامٍ فِي حَجْرِي؟ قَالَتْ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ أُلْقِيَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْمَهَابَةُ فَقَالَ «لَا بَلْ سَلِيهِ أَنْتِ» قَالَتْ فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى الْبَابِ وَإِذَا عَلَى الْبَابِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهَا زَيْنَبُ حَاجَتُهَا حَاجَتِي فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا بِلَالٌ فَقُلْنَا لَهُ «سَلْ لَنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَتُجْزِئُ عَنَّا مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ النَّفَقَةُ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِنَا وَأَيْتَامٍ فِي حُجُورِنَا؟» قَالَتْ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ بِلَالٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلَى الْبَابِ زَيْنَبُ قَالَ «أَيُّ الزَّيَانِبِ» قَالَ زَيْنَبُ امْرَأَةُ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَزَيْنَبُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ تَسْأَلَانِكَ عَنِ النَّفَقَةِ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِمَا وَأَيْتَامٍ فِي حُجُورِهِمَا يُجْزِئُ ذَلِكَ عَنْهُمَا مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَهُمَا أَجْرَانِ أَجْرُ الْقَرَابَةِ وَأَجْرُ الصَّدَقَةِ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said: 'O assembly of women, give charity even from your jewelry, for you are the majority of the people of Hell on the Day of Resurrection.' She said: 'Abdullah was a man of light means, so I said to him: Ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for me whether spending on my husband and orphans in my care suffices me for charity.' She said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ inspired awe, so he said: No, rather you ask him yourself.' She said: 'So I went and reached the door, and there at the door was a woman from the Ansar called Zainab whose need was the same as mine. Bilal came out to us, and we said to him: Ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for us whether spending on our husbands and orphans in our care suffices us for charity.' She said: 'Bilal entered upon him and said to him: At the door are Zainab. He said: Which Zainab? He said: Zainab the wife of Abdullah and Zainab, a woman from the Ansar. They ask you about spending on their husbands and orphans in their care; does that suffice them for charity? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: They have two rewards: the reward of kinship and the reward of charity.'
