✧ The Man Hitting His Wife

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زَمْعَةَ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَعَظَهُمْ فِي الرِّيحِ الَّتِي تَخْرُجُ قَالَ «وَلَمْ يَضْحَكْ أَحَدُكُمْ مِمَّا يَكُونُ مِنْهُ وَوَعَظَهُمْ فِي النِّسَاءِ أَنْ يَضْرِبَ أَحَدُهُمُ امْرَأَتَهُ كَمَا يَضْرِبُ الْعَبْدَ أَوِ الْأَمَةَ مِنْ أَوَّلِ النَّهَارِ ثُمَّ يُعَانِقُهَا مِنْ آخِرِ النَّهَارِ»
Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ admonished them about the wind that passes [from one]. He said: “None of you should laugh at what comes from him.” And he admonished them about women: that one of you should strike his wife as he strikes a slave or a slave-girl at the beginning of the day, then embrace her at the end of the day.
