✧ Safiyyah was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and that was her day. She was slow in traveling, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to meet her while she was weeping and saying: “You mounted me on a slow camel.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to wipe her eyes with his hands and calm her, but she insisted on crying. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and left her, and I arrived. Then 'A'ishah came and said: “This day of mine is yours with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ if you make him pleased with me.” So 'A'ishah went to her head-covering, which she had dyed with wars and saffron, sprinkled it with some water, then came and sat by the head of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: “What is the matter with you?” She said: “That is the bounty of Allah, He gives it to whom He wills.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recognized the matter and was pleased with Safiyyah. Then he went to Zaynab and said to her: “Safiyyah's camel has become exhausted; what harm would it be for you to give her your camel?” Zaynab said: “Do you intend to give my camel to the Jewess?” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ deserted her for three months and did not come near her house. Zaynab gave up on herself and abandoned her house; she took the bed and leaned it against the back of the house, despairing that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would come to her. One day, while she was like that, she felt the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entering the house; he put the bed back in its place. Zaynab said: “O Messenger of Allah, my slave-girl so-and-so has purified from her menses today; she is yours.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went in to her and was pleased with her.
