أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ

أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ سَلَامٍ بَلَغَهُ مَقْدَمُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَتَاهُ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَائِلُكَ عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ لَا يَعْلَمُهُنَّ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ مَا أَوَّلُ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ؟ وَمَا أَوَّلُ طَعَامٍ يَأْكُلُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ؟ وَمَا بَالُ الْوَلَدِ يَنْزِعُ إِلَى أُمِّهِ وَإِلَى أَبِيهِ؟ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي بِهِنَّ جِبْرِيلُ آنِفًا فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ ذَاكَ عَدُوُّ الْيَهُودِ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ فَقَالَ «أَمَّا أَوَّلُ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ فَنَارٌ تَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ إِلَى الْمَغْرِبِ وَأَوَّلُ طَعَامٍ يَأْكُلُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ فَزَائِدَةُ كَبِدِ حُوتٍ وَأَمَّا الْوَلَدُ فَإِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ نَزَعَ إِلَيْهِ وَإِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ نَزَعَتِ الشَّبَهَ» قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ قَوْمٌ بُهُتٌ فَسَلْهُمْ عَنِّي قَبْلَ أَنْ يَعْلَمُوا إِسْلَامِي فَجَاءَتِ الْيَهُودُ فَقَالَ أَيُّ رَجُلٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ فِيكُمْ؟ قَالُوا خَيْرُنَا وَابْنُ خَيْرِنَا وَأَفْضَلُنَا وَابْنُ أَفْضَلِنَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَسْلَمَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ» قَالُوا أَعَاذَهُ اللهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَأَعَادَهَا فَقَالُوا مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ فَقَالُوا شَرُّنَا وَابْنً شَرِّنَا وَتَنَقَّصُوهُ فَقَالَ هَذَا كُنْتُ أَخَافُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ

✧ That Abdullah b. Salam heard of the Prophet’s ﷺ arrival in Madinah, so he came to him and asked him about some things. He said, “I will ask you about three things that none knows except a prophet: What is the first sign of the Hour? What is the first food the people of Paradise will eat? And what is the matter with the child that it inclines to its mother and to its father?” He said, “Jibril informed me of them just now.” Abdullah b. Salam said, “That is the enemy of the Jews among the angels.” He said, “As for the first sign of the Hour, it is a fire that emerges from the east to the west. As for the first food the people of Paradise will eat, it is the extra lobe of the fish’s liver. As for the child, if the man’s fluid precedes, it inclines to him, and if the woman’s fluid precedes, she imparts the resemblance.” He said, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah.” He said, “O Messenger of Allah, the Jews are a slanderous people, so ask them about me before they learn of my Islam.” The Jews came, and he said, “What kind of man is Abdullah b. Salam among you?” They said, “The best of us and the son of our best, the most excellent of us and the son of our most excellent.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “What do you think if Abdullah b. Salam embraces Islam?” They said, “May Allah protect him from that.” He repeated it, and they said the same. Then Abdullah b. Salam came out to them and said, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” They said, “The worst of us and the son of our worst,” and they belittled him. He said, “This is what I feared, O Messenger of Allah.”
