✧ The Interpretation of the Saying of Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, "Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth when or how you will." [al-Baqarah: 223]

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
جَاءَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَلَكْتُ قَالَ «وَمَا الَّذِي أَهْلَكَكَ؟» قَالَ حَوَّلْتُ رَحْلِي اللَّيْلَةَ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ شَيْئًا فَأُوحِيَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223] يَقُولُ «أَقْبِلْ وَأَدْبِرْ وَاتَّقِ الدُّبُرَ وَالْحَيْضَةَ»

✧ ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, I am ruined. He said: "And what has ruined you?" He said: I changed my saddle tonight. He did not reply to him with anything. Then this verse was revealed to the Messenger of God ﷺ: {Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth when or how you will} [al-Baqarah: 223]. He said: "Go forward and go back, and avoid the anus and menstruation."
