✧ The Interpretation of the Saying of Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, "Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth when or how you will." [al-Baqarah: 223]

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ
أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ يَهُودَ كَانَتْ تَقُولُ إِذَا أُتِيَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنْ دُبُرِهَا ثُمَّ حَمَلَتْ كَانَ وَلَدُهَا أَحْوَلَ فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223] 8926 أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ وَذَكَرَ آخَرُ أَنَّ ابْنَ الْهَادِ حَدَّثَهُمَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ نَحْوَهُ

✧ He used to say: The Jews used to say that if a woman is approached from her rear and then becomes pregnant, her child will be cross-eyed. Then this verse was revealed: {Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth when or how you will} [al-Baqarah: 223]. 8926 ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbd al-Ḥakam reported to us, he said: Ibn Abī Maryam narrated to us, he said: Yaḥyā b. Ayyūb informed me, and another mentioned that Ibn al-Hād narrated to them from Muḥammad b. al-Munkadir from Jābir something similar.
