✧ If his wives seek permission, then grant them permission to stay with some of them and console him

أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ عَنْ مُعَاذَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَسْتَأْذِنَّا فِي يَوْمِ إِحْدَانَا بَعْدَمَا نَزَلَتْ {تُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ} [الأحزاب 51] وَقَالَتْ مُعَاذَةُ فَقُلْتُ مَا كُنْتِ تَقُولِينَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذَا اسْتَأْذَنَكِ؟ قَالَتْ كُنْتُ أَقُولُ «إِنْ كَانَ ذَلِكَ إِلَيَّ لَمْ أُوثِرْ عَلَى نَفْسِي أَحَدًا»

✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to ask our permission on the day of one of us after it was revealed: {You may defer any of them you wish, and take in marriage any you wish} [al-Ahzab: 51]. Mu'adhah said: I said: 'What would you say to the Prophet ﷺ when he asked your permission?' She said: 'I would say: If that is up to me, I would not prefer anyone over myself.'
