أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ نَبِيًّا مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ غَزَا بِأَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ «لَا يَتْبَعُنِي رَجُلٌ بَنَى دَارًا لَمْ يَسْكُنْهَا أَوْ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً لَمْ يَدْخُلْ بِهَا أَوْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ فِي الرُّجُوعِ فَلَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ عِنْدَ غَيْبُوبَةِ الشَّمْسِ» فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ إِنَّهَا مَأْمُورَةٌ وَإِنِّي مَأْمُورٌ فَاحْبِسْهَا عَلَيَّ حَتَّى تَقْضِيَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَحَبَسَهَا اللهُ عَلَيْهِ فَفَتَحَ عَلَيْهِ فَجَمَعُوا الْغَنَائِمَ فَلَمْ تَأْكُلْهَا النَّارُ» قَالَ وَكَانُوا إِذَا غَنِمُوا غَنِيمَةً بَعَثَ اللهُ عَلَيْهَا النَّارَ فَتَأْكُلُهَا فَقَالَ «لَهُمْ نَبِيُّهُمْ إِنَّكُمْ قَدْ غَلَلْتُمْ فَلْيَأْتِنِي مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلَةٍ رَجُلٌ فَلْيُبَايِعُونِي فَأَتَوْهُ فَبَايَعُوهُ فَلَزِقَتْ يَدُ رَجُلَيْنِ مِنْهُمْ بِيَدِهِ» فَقَالَ لَهُمَا إِنَّكُمَا قَدْ غَلَلْتُمَا فَقَالَا «أَجَلْ غَلَلْنَا صُورَةَ رَأْسِ بَقَرَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَجَاءَا بِهَا فَأَلْقَيَاهَا إِلَى الْغَنَائِمِ فَبَعَثَ اللهُ عَلَيْهَا النَّارَ فَأَكَلَتْهَا» فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ «إِنَّ اللهَ أَطْعَمَنَا الْغَنَائِمَ رَحْمَةً رَحِمَنَا بِهَا وَتَخْفِيفًا خَفَّفَهُ عَنَّا لِمَا عَلِمَ مِنْ ضَعْفِنَا»

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: A prophet among the prophets went on an expedition with his companions and said, "No man should follow me who has built a house but not yet lived in it, or married a woman but not yet consummated the marriage, or has any need to return." He met the enemy at sunset and said, "O Allah, it is commanded, and I am commanded. Hold it back for me until You judge between me and them." So Allah held it back for him, and he was victorious. They gathered the spoils, but the fire did not consume them. (He said: When they gained spoils, Allah would send fire upon it and it would consume them.) Their prophet said to them, "You have committed theft from the spoils. Let a man from every tribe come and pledge allegiance to me." They came and pledged allegiance, and the hand of two men among them stuck to his hand. He said to them, "You two have committed theft." They said, "Yes, we stole a golden image of a cow's head." They brought it and threw it among the spoils, and Allah sent fire upon it and it consumed them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said then, "Allah has granted us the spoils as a mercy by which He had mercy on us, and as a lightening of burden that He lightened for us, because He knew our weakness."
