✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ camped during a military expedition he undertook, and his companions were struck by hunger and their provisions ran out. They came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ complaining to him of what had befallen them and asking his permission to slaughter some of their riding camels. He gave them permission, so they went out and passed by 'Umar b. al-Khattab. He said, 'Where have you come from?' They informed him that they had asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to slaughter some of their camels. He said, 'Did he give you permission?' They said, 'Yes.' He said, 'I ask you and adjure you not to return with me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' So they returned with him. 'Umar went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, will you permit them to slaughter their riding camels? Then what will they ride?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'What can I do? I do not have anything to give them.' He said, 'Rather, O Messenger of Allah, command whoever has surplus provisions to bring them to you, and gather them on something, supplicate over them, then distribute them among them.' He did so, and called them with the surplus of their provisions. Among them were those who brought little and those who brought much. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ put it in something, then supplicated over it as much as Allah willed him to supplicate, then distributed it among them. Not one of the people remained but filled what he had of vessels, and a surplus remained. At that he said: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Whoever comes with it to Allah on the Day of Resurrection, not doubting, I will admit him to Paradise.'
