أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْكُوفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ بُرَيْدِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

لَمَّا جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِنْ حُنَيْنٍ بَعَثَ أَبَا عَامِرٍ عَلَى جَيْشٍ إِلَى أَوْطَاسٍ فَلَقِيَ ابْنَ الصِّمَّةِ فَقُتِلَ وَهَزَمَ اللهُ أَصْحَابَهُ قَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى فَرُمِيَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ فِي رُكْبَتِهِ رَمَاهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي جُشَمٍ بِسَهْمٍ فَأَثْبَتَهُ فِي رُكْبَتِهِ فَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ يَا عَمُّ «مَنْ رَمَاكَ؟ فَأَشَارَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ إِلَى أَبِي مُوسَى» فَقَالَ «إِنَّ ذَاكَ قَاتِلِي تَرَاهُ ذَلِكَ الَّذِي رَمَانِي» قَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى «فَقَصَدْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَاعْتَمَدْتُهُ فَلَحِقْتُهُ فَلَمَّا رَآنِي وَلَّى عَنَى ذَاهِبًا فَاتَّبَعْتُهُ» وَجَعَلْتُ أَقُولُ لَهُ «أَلَا تَسْتَحْيِ؟ أَلَسْتَ عَرَبِيًّا؟ أَلَا تَثْبُتُ؟ فَكَرَّ فَالْتَقَيْتُ أَنَا وَهُوَ فَاخْتَلَفْنَا ضَرْبَتَيْنِ فَضَرَبْتُهُ بِالسَّيْفِ فَقَتَلْتُهُ ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى أَبِي عَامِرٍ» فَقُلْتُ قَدْ قَتَلَ اللهُ صَاحِبَكَ قَالَ «فَانْزِعْ هَذَا السَّهْمَ فَنَزَعْتُهُ فَنَزَا مِنْهُ الْمَاءُ» فَقَالَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي انْطَلِقْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَقْرِئْهُ مِنِّي السَّلَامَ وَقُلْ لَهُ إِنَّهُ يَقُولَ لَكَ «اسْتَغْفِرْ لِي» قَالَ وَاسْتَخْلَفَنِي أَبُو عَامِرٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَمَكَثَ يَسِيرًا ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ مَاتَ فَلَمَّا رَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ دَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ فِي بَيْتٍ عَلَى سَرِيرٍ مُرَمَّلٍ وَعَلَيْهِ فِرَاشٌ وَقَدْ أَثَّرَ رِمَالُ السَّرِيرِ بِظَهْرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَنْبَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِخَبَرِنَا وَخَبَرِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ فَقُلْتُ قَالَ لِي «قُلْ لَهُ اسْتَغْفِرْ لِي فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ» فَقَالَ اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِعُبْيدٍ أَبِي عَامِرٍ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ بَيَاضَ إِبْطَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَوْقَ كَثِيرٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ أَوْ مِنَ النَّاسِ» فَقُلْتُ وَلِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَاسْتَغْفِرْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ذَنْبَهُ وَأَدْخِلْهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مُدْخَلًا كَرِيمًا» قَالَ أَبُو بُرْدَةَ إِحْدَاهُمَا لِأَبِي عَامِرٍ وَالْأُخْرَى لِأَبِي مُوسَى

✧ When the Prophet ﷺ came from Hunayn, he sent Abu Amir with an army to Awtas. He met Ibn al-Simmah and was killed, and Allah defeated his companions. Abu Musa said: Abu Amir was shot in his knee—a man from Banu Jusham shot him with an arrow and lodged it in his knee. I went to him and said: 'O uncle, who shot you?' Abu Amir gestured to Abu Musa and said: 'That one is my killer, the one who shot me—do you see him?' Abu Musa said: 'I went straight toward him, and when he saw me, he turned and fled. I pursued him and kept saying to him: "Are you not ashamed? Are you not an Arab? Will you not stand firm?" He turned back, and he and I exchanged two blows. I struck him with the sword and killed him. Then I returned to Abu Amir and said: "Allah has killed your opponent."' He said: 'Pull out this arrow.' So I pulled it out, and water gushed from it [the wound]. He said: 'O son of my brother, go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, convey my greetings of peace to him, and tell him that he says to you: "Ask forgiveness for me."' He said: Abu Amir appointed me as his successor over the people, and he remained for a short while, then he died. When I returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I entered upon him while he was in a house on a bed made of woven palm leaves, with a mattress over it, and the marks of the palm leaves had left traces on the back and sides of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I informed him of our news and the news of Abu Amir, and I said: 'He told me to say to you: "Ask forgiveness for me."' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for water, performed ablution, then raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, forgive Ubayd Abu Amir'—until I saw the whiteness of his armpits. Then he said: 'O Allah, place him on the Day of Resurrection above many of Your creation'—or 'of the people.' I said: 'And for me, O Messenger of Allah, ask forgiveness.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah, forgive Abdullah b. Qays his sin, and admit him on the Day of Resurrection to a noble entrance.' Abu Burdah said: One of these two supplications was for Abu Amir, and the other for Abu Musa.
