أَخْبَرَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْهِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمْزَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ
«سَأَلْتُ أَزْوَاجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابَهُ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي سُبْحَةَ الضُّحَى؟ فَلَمْ يُثْبِتُوا فِي ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا غَيْرَ أَنَّهُمْ ذَكَرُوا أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَدِمَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ نَزَلَ الْمُعَرَّسَ حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ ضُحًى فَيَبْدَأَ بِالْمَسْجِدِ فَيَرْكَعُ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يَجْلِسُ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ مَنْ حَوْلَهُ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَيُسَلِّمُونَ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يَرْتَفِعُ إِلَى أَزْوَاجِهِ»

✧ "I asked the wives of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions whether the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray the forenoon voluntary prayer, but they did not confirm anything about that, except that they mentioned that when he arrived from a journey, he would halt at al-Muarras so that he might enter at forenoon. Then he would begin with the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, then he would sit until the Muslims around him came and greeted him, and then he would go to his wives."
