أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمِّي أَيُّوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى وَهُوَ جَدِّي عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الصَّائِغِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى
أَنَّ عَلِيًّا خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا فِي حَرٍّ شَدِيدٍ وَعَلَيْهِ ثِيَابُ الشِّتَاءِ وَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَعَلَيْهِ ثِيَابُ الصَّيْفِ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ الْعَرَقَ عَنْ جَبْهَتِهِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ إِلَى أَبِيهِ قَالَ يَا أَبَةِ «أَرَأَيْتَ مَا صَنَعَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ؟ خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَعَلَيْهِ ثِيَابُ الصَّيْفِ وَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا فِي الصَّيْفِ وَعَلَيْهِ ثِيَابُ الشِّتَاءِ» فَقَالَ أَبُو لَيْلَى هَلْ فَطِنْتَ؟ وَأَخَذَ بِيَدِ ابْنِهِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فَأَتَى عَلِيًّا فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ بَعَثَ إِلَيَّ وَأنا أَرْمَدُ شَدِيدُ الرَّمَدِ فَبَزَقَ فِي عَيْنِي ثُمَّ قَالَ «افْتَحْ عَيْنَيْكَ فَفَتَحْتُهُمَا فَمَا اشْتَكَيْتُهُمَا حَتَّى السَّاعَةِ وَدَعَا لِي» فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ أَذْهِبْ عَنْهُ الْحَرَّ وَالْبَرَدَ فَمَا وَجَدْتُ حَرًّا وَلَا بَرْدًا حَتَّى يَوْمِي هَذَا»
Translation

✧ That 'Ali came out to us in intense heat wearing winter clothes, and he came out to us in winter wearing summer clothes. Then he called for water and drank, then wiped the sweat from his forehead. When he returned to his father, he said: O father, did you see what the Commander of the Faithful did? He came out to us in winter wearing summer clothes, and he came out to us in summer wearing winter clothes. Abu Layla said: Did you notice? And he took the hand of his son 'Abd al-Rahman and went to 'Ali. 'Ali said to him: The Prophet ﷺ had sent for me while I was suffering from severe ophthalmia, and he spat in my eye, then said: "Open your eyes." So I opened them, and I have not suffered from them until this hour. And he supplicated for me, saying: "O God, remove from him heat and cold." So I have not felt heat or cold until this day of mine."
