أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَهِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمٌ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مِسْمَارٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ قَالَ أَمَرَ مُعَاوِيَةُ سَعْدًا فَقَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَسُبَّ أَبَا تُرَابٍ؟ قَالَ
أَمَا مَا ذَكَرْتُ ثَلَاثًا قَالَهُنَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَنْ أَسُبَّهُ لَأَنْ تَكُونَ لِي وَاحِدَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ حُمْرِ النَّعَمِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَهُ وَخَلَّفَهُ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ «تُخَلِّفُنِي مَعَ النِّسَاءِ وَالصِّبْيَانِ؟» فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَا نُبُوَّةَ بَعْدِي؟» وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ فِي يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ «لَأُعْطِيَنَّ الرَّايَةَ رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيُحِبُّهُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ» فَتَطَاوَلْنَا لَهَا فَقَالَ «ادْعُوا لِي عَلِيًّا» فَأُتِيَ بِهِ أَرْمَدَ فَبَصَقَ فِي عَيْنَيْهِ وَدَفَعَ الرَّايَةَ إِلَيْهِ وَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ زَادَ هِشَامٌ {إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ} [الأحزاب 33] دَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلِيًّا وَفَاطِمَةَ وَحَسَنًا وَحُسَيْنًا فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ يَعْنِي هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلِي»

✧ As for what I have mentioned of three things that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, I will never revile him. That one of them be mine is dearer to me than red camels. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say to him when he left him behind in one of his expeditions, and Ali said to him: 'O Messenger of God, do you leave me behind with the women and children?' The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him: «Are you not pleased to be to me as Harun was to Musa, except that there is no prophethood after me?» And I heard him say on the day of Khaybar: «I will surely give the banner to a man who loves God and His Messenger, and whom God and His Messenger love.» We stretched out our necks for it, and he said: «Call Ali for me.» He was brought to him with sore eyes, and he spat in his eyes and handed the banner to him. And when the verse {God only desires to remove impurity from you, O People of the House} [al-Ahzab 33] was revealed, Hisham added: The Messenger of God ﷺ called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn and said: «O God, these are my family.»
