أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمِ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَبَّانُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ عَمِّي أَنَسُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ سُمِّيتَ بِهِ وَلَمْ يَشْهَدْ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَكَبُرَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ «أَوَّلُ مَشْهَدٍ شَهِدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غُيِّبْتُ عَنْهُ أَمَا وَاللهِ لَئِنْ أَرَانِي اللهُ مَشْهَدًا فِيمَا بَعْدُ لَيَرَيَنَّ اللهُ مَا أَصْنَعُ» قَالَ «وَهَابَ أَنْ يَقُولَ غَيْرُهَا فَشَهِدَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ مِنَ الْعَامِ الْمُقْبِلِ فَاسْتَقْبَلَهُ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ» فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا عَمْرٍو «أَيْنَ؟» قَالَ «وَاهًا لِرِيحِ الْجَنَّةِ أَجِدُهَا دُونَ أُحُدٍ فَقَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ فَوُجِدَ فِي جَسَدِهِ بِضْعٌ وَثَمَانُونَ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَعْنِي ضَرْبَةٍ وَرَمْيَةٍ وَطَعْنَةٍ» فَقَالَتْ عَمَّتِي الرُّبَيِّعُ بِنْتُ النَّضْرِ أُخْتُهُ فَمَا عَرَفْتُ أَخِي إِلَّا بِبَنَانِهِ قَالَ وَأُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوا اللهَ عَلَيْهِ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَنْتَظِرُ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيلًا} [الأحزاب 23]

✧ My paternal uncle Anas b. al-Nadr, after whom I was named, did not attend Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. That weighed heavily on him, and he said: 'The first battle which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ attended, I was absent from it. By Allah, if Allah lets me witness a battle after this, Allah will see what I do.' He was too afraid to say more than that. Then he was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Uhud the following year. Sa'd b. Mu'adh met him and said: 'O Abu 'Amr, where are you going?' He said: 'Ah! I find the scent of Paradise near Uhud.' He fought until he was killed. More than eighty wounds, between sword blows, arrow shots, and spear thrusts, were found on his body. My paternal aunt, his sister al-Rubayyi' bint al-Nadr, said: 'I only recognized my brother by his fingertips.' He said: 'This verse was revealed: {Among the believers are men who have been true to what they pledged to Allah. Some of them have fulfilled their vow, and some are still waiting, and they have not changed in the least} [al-Ahzab: 23].'
