أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَعِنْدَهُ نِسَاءٌ مِنْ نِسَاءِ الْأَنْصَارِ يُكَلِّمْنَهُ وَيَسْتَكْثِرْنَهُ عَالِيَةً أَصْوَاتُهُنَّ فَلَمَّا اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ تَبَادَرْنَ الْحِجَابَ فَدَخَلَ عُمَرُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَضْحَكُ فَقَالَ «أَضْحَكَ اللهُ سِنَّكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ» فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «عَجِبْتُ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ اللَّائِي كُنَّ عِنْدِي فَلَمَّا سَمِعْنَ صَوْتَكَ تَبَادَرْنَ الْحِجَابَ» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ «وَأَنْتَ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يَهَبْنَ» ثُمَّ قَالَ عُمَرُ «أَيْ عَدُوَّاتِ أَنْفُسِهِنَّ أَتَهَبْنَنِي وَلَمْ تَهَبْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ؟» قُلْنَ «نَعَمْ أَنْتَ أَفَظُّ وَأَغْلَظُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ» قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا لَقِيَكَ الشَّيْطَانُ قَطُّ سَالِكًا فَجًّا إِلَّا سَلَكَ غَيْرَ فَجِّكَ»

✧ Umar ibn al-Khattab sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while some women of the Ansar were with him, talking to him and raising their voices. When Umar sought permission, they hastened to the veil. Umar entered while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was laughing. He said, "May Allah make you laugh, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I was amazed at these who were with me; when they heard your voice, they hastened to the veil." Umar said, "You are more deserving that they fear you." Then Umar said, "O enemies of yourselves, do you fear me and not fear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" They said, "Yes, you are harsher and rougher than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, Satan never met you on a path except that he took a different path than yours."
