أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَزَّلَ فِي عَرْضِ الْمَدِينَةِ فِي حَيٍّ يُقَالُ لَهُمْ بَنُو عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ فَأَقَامَ فِيهِمْ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَى مَلَأٍ مِنْ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ فَجَاءُوا مُتَقَلِّدِينَ سُيُوفَهُمْ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ رَدِيفُهُ وَالْمَلَأُ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ حَوْلَهُ حَتَّى أَلْقَى بِفِنَاءِ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ وَكَانَ يُصَلِّي حَيْثُ أَدْرَكَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ فَيُصَلِّي فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ ثُمَّ أُمِرَ بِالْمَسْجِدِ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى مَلَأِ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ فَجَاءُوا فَقَالَ «يَا بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ثَامِنُونِي بِحَائِطِكُمْ هَذَا» فَقَالُوا لَا وَاللهِ لَا نَطْلُبُ ثَمَنَهُ إِلَّا إِلَى اللهِ قَالَ أَنَسٌ وَكَانَتْ فِيهِ قُبُورُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَكَانَ فِيهِ خِرَبٌ وَكَانَ فِيهِ نَخْلٌ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِقُبُورِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَنُبِشَتْ وَبِالنَّخْلِ فَقُطِعَتْ وَبِالْخِرَبِ فَسُوِّيَتْ فَصَفُّوا النَّخْلَ قِبْلَةَ الْمَسْجِدِ وَجَعَلُوا عِضَادَتَيْهِ الْحِجَارَةَ وَجَعَلُوا يَنْقُلُونَ الصَّخْرَ وَهُمْ يَرْتَجِزُونَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَعَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ «اللهُمَّ لَا خَيْرَ إِلَّا خَيْرَ الْآخِرَهِ فَانْصُرِ الْأَنْصَارَ وَالْمُهَاجِرَهِ»

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived, he alighted in the outskirts of Madinah among a clan called Banu 'Amr b. 'Awf. He stayed among them for fourteen nights, then sent for the chiefs of Banu al-Najjar. They came wearing their swords. It is as if I can see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on his mount, with Abu Bakr riding behind him and the chiefs of Banu al-Najjar around him, until he stopped at the courtyard of Abu Ayyub. He used to pray wherever the prayer overtook him, even in sheep pens. Then he was commanded regarding the mosque, so he sent for the chiefs of Banu al-Najjar, and they came. He said: "O Banu al-Najjar, sell me this walled garden of yours." They said: "No, by Allah, we seek its price only from Allah." Anas said: In it there were graves of the polytheists, ruins, and palm trees. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that the graves of the polytheists be dug up, the palm trees cut down, and the ruins leveled. They lined up the palm trunks as the qiblah of the mosque and made its two doorposts of stone. They were carrying rocks and reciting verses of poetry, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with them, and they were saying: "O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter, so grant victory to the Ansar and the Muhajirun."
