أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً سَرَقَتْ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا مَنْ يُكَلِّمُهُ فِيهَا؟ فَقَالُوا مَا مِنَّا أَحَدٌ يُكَلِّمُهُ فِيهَا إِلَّا حِبُّهُ أُسَامَةُ فَكَلَّمَهُ فَقَالَ «يَا أُسَامَةُ إِنَّ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ إِنَّمَا هَلَكُوا بِمِثْلِ هَذَا كَانَ إِذَا سَرَقَ فِيهِمُ الشَّرِيفُ تَرَكُوهُ وَإِذَا سَرَقَ فِيهِمُ الدُّونُ الضَّعِيفُ قَطَعُوهُ وَإِنَّهَا لَوْ كَانَتْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ مُحَمَّدٍ لَقَطَعْتُهَا»

✧ A woman stole during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They said: Who will speak to him about her? They said: None of us will speak to him about her except his beloved Usamah. So he spoke to him. He said: "O Usamah, the Children of Israel were destroyed by something like this. When a noble person among them stole, they would leave him, and when a lowly, weak person among them stole, they would cut off his hand. If she were Fatimah bint Muhammad, I would cut off her hand."
