أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ أَنَّهُمَا قَالَا إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْشُدُكَ أَلَا قَضَيْتَ لِي بِكِتَابِ اللهِ فَقَالَ الْخَصْمُ الْآخَرُ وَهُوَ أَفْقَهُ مِنْهُ نَعَمْ فَاقْضِ بَيْنَنَا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ وَائْذَنْ لِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قُلْ» قَالَ إِنَّ ابْنِي كَانَ عَسِيفًا عَلَى هَذَا فَزَنَى بِامْرَأَتِهِ وَإِنِّي اخْبِرْتُ أَنَّ عَلَى ابْنِي الرَّجْمَ فَافْتَدَيْتُ مِنْهُ بِمِائَةِ شَاةٍ وَوَلِيدَةٍ فَسَأَلْتُ أَهْلَ الْعِلْمِ فَأَخْبَرُونِي أَنَّ مَا عَلَى ابْنِي مِائَةُ جَلْدَةٍ وَتَغْرِيبُ عَامٍ وَأَنْ عَلَى امْرَأَةِ هَذَا الرَّجْمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَأَقْضِيَنَّ بَيْنَكُمَا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ الْوَلِيدَةُ وَالْغَنَمُ رَدٌّ وَعَلَى ابْنِكِ جَلْدُ مِائَةٍ وَتَغْرِيبُ عَامٍ اغْدُ يَا أُنَيْسُ عَلَى امْرَأَةِ هَذَا فَإِنِ اعْتَرَفَتْ فَارْجُمْهَا» فَغَدَا عَلَيْهَا فَاعْتَرَفَتْ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَرُجِمَتْ

✧ From Abu Hurayra and Zayd b. Khalid that they said: A man from the Bedouins came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, I adjure you, have you not judged for me by the Book of God? The other disputant, who was more learned than him, said: Yes, judge between us by the Book of God and permit me. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Speak.” He said: My son was a hired worker for this man, and he committed fornication with his wife. I was told that my son was to be stoned, so I ransomed him with a hundred sheep and a slave girl. I asked the people of knowledge, and they told me that my son was to receive a hundred lashes and exile for a year, and that stoning was upon this man’s wife. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “By the One in whose hand is my soul, I will judge between you by the Book of God. The slave girl and the sheep are returned, and upon your son is a hundred lashes and exile for a year. Go, O Unays, to this man’s wife, and if she confesses, stone her.” He went to her, she confessed, and the Messenger of God ﷺ ordered her to be stoned, and she was stoned.
