أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ قَاضِي دِمَشْقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ هُوَ الْأَزْرَقُ عَنْ عَوْفٍ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

جِيءَ بِالْقَاتِلِ الَّذِي قَتَلَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ جَاءَ بِهِ وَلِيُّ الْمَقْتُولِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَتَعْفُو؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «أَتَأْخُذُ الدِّيَةَ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «الْقَتْلُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «اذْهَبْ» فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ قَالَ «أَمَا إِنَّكَ إِنْ عَفَوْتَ عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَبُوءُ بِإِثْمِكَ وَإِثْمِ صَاحِبِهِ» فَعَفَا عَنْهُ فَأَرْسَلَهُ قَالَ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَجُرُّ نِسْعَتَهُ

✧ The killer who had killed was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The guardian of the slain man brought him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “Will you pardon?” He said, “No.” He said, “Will you take the blood money?” He said, “No.” He said, “Then execution?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “Go.” When he went, he said, “Indeed, if you pardon him, he will bear your sin and the sin of his companion.” So he pardoned him and let him go. He said: I saw him dragging his rope.
