قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي شُعَيْبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسُ بْنُ طِخْفَةَ الْغِفَارِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الصُّفَّةِ قَالَ

وَكَانَ يَأْتِينَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ بَعْدِ صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ فَيَقُولُ «يَا فُلَانُ اذْهَبْ مَعَ فُلَانٍ وَأَنْتَ يَا فُلَانُ اذْهَبْ مَعَ فُلَانٍ» حَتَّى بَقِيتُ فِي خَمْسَةٍ أَنَا خَامِسُهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «انْطَلِقُوا مَعِي» فَانْطَلَقْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا عَائِشَةَ وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُضْرَبَ عَلَيْهَا الْحِجَابُ فَقَالَ «يَا عَائِشَةُ عَشِّينَا» فَأَتَتْنَا بِجَشِيشَةٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا عَائِشَةُ عَشِّينَا فَأَتَتْنَا بِحَيْسٍ كَالْقَطَاةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا عَائِشَةُ اسْقِينَا» فَأَتَتْنَا بِقَعْبٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا عَائِشَةُ اسْقِينَا فَأَتَتْنَا بِقَعْبٍ دُونَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنْ شِئْتُمْ بِتُّمْ هَاهُنَا وَإِنْ شِئْتُمْ أَتَيْتُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ» قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَلْ نَأْتِي الْمَسْجِدَ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ used to come to us after the Maghrib prayer and say: “O so-and-so, go with so-and-so; and you, O so-and-so, go with so-and-so,” until I remained among five, I being the fifth. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Come with me.” We went with the Messenger of God ﷺ until we came to ʿĀʾishah, and that was before the ḥijāb was imposed on her. He said: “O ʿĀʾishah, give us supper.” She brought us jashīshah. Then he said: “O ʿĀʾishah, give us supper.” She brought us ḥays like a sandgrouse. Then he said: “O ʿĀʾishah, give us something to drink.” She brought us a large bowl. Then he said: “O ʿĀʾishah, give us something to drink.” She brought us a smaller bowl. Then he said: “If you wish, you may spend the night here, or if you wish, you may go to the mosque.” We said: “O Messenger of God, rather we will go to the mosque.”
