✧ The virtue of giving charity to the deceased

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ وَتَرَكَ مَالًا وَلَمْ يُوصِ فَهَلْ يُكَفَّرُ عَنْهُ أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ»

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. ʿAlī b. Ḥujr
  2. Ismāʿīl
  3. al-ʿAlāʾ from his father
  4. Abū Hurayrah
  5. a man

✧ It was said to the Prophet ﷺ: “My father died and left wealth, but he did not make a bequest. Will it expiate for him if I give charity on his behalf?” He said, “Yes.”
