✧ If the emancipator dies and the enslaved remains

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جَمِيلِ بْنِ طَرِيفٍ الْبَلْخِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَمْرٍو يَعْنِي ابْنَ دِينَارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَوْسَجَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا مَاتَ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ قَرَابَةً إِلَّا عَبْدًا هُوَ أَعْتَقَهُ فَأَعْطَاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِيرَاثَهُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَوْسَجَةُ لَيْسَ بِالْمَشْهُورِ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ أَنَّ أَحَدًا يَرْوِي عَنْهُ غَيْرَ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ وَلَمْ نَجِدْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ إِلَّا عِنْدَ عَوْسَجَةَ

✧ A man died during the time of the Prophet ﷺ and left no relative except a slave whom he had set free. The Prophet ﷺ gave him his inheritance. Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: 'Awsajah is not well-known, and we do not know of anyone who narrated from him other than 'Amr b. Dinar. We did not find this hadith except from 'Awsajah.'
