أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ أَبُو حَفْصٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى هُوَ الْقَطَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَجْلَحُ وَاسْمُهُ يَحْيَى عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي الْخَلِيلِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَعَلِيٌّ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِالْيَمَنِ فَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ شَهِدْتُ عَلِيًّا أُتِيَ فِي ثَلَاثَةٍ ادَّعَوْا وَلَدَ امْرَأَةٍ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ لِأَحَدِهِمْ تَدَعُهُ لِهَذَا؟ فَأَبَى وَقَالَ لِهَذَا تَدَعُهُ لِهَذَا فَأَبَى وَقَالَ لِهَذَا تَدَعُهُ لِهَذَا فَأَبَى قَالَ عَلِيٌّ أَنْتُمْ شُرَكَاءُ مُتَشَاكِسُونَ وَسَأُقْرِعُ بَيْنَكُمْ فَأَيُّكُمْ أَصَابَتْهُ الْقُرْعَةُ فَهُوَ لَهُ وَعَلَيْهِ ثُلُثَا الدِّيَةِ «فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ هَذِهِ الْأَحَادِيثُ كُلُّهَا مُضْطَرِبَةُ الْأَسَانِيدِ

✧ I was with the Prophet ﷺ and ʿAlī was in Yemen that day. A man came to him and said: “I witnessed ʿAlī when he was brought three men who claimed a woman's child. ʿAlī said to one of them: ‘Will you leave him to this one?’ He refused. He said to another: ‘Will you leave him to this one?’ He refused. He said to another: ‘Will you leave him to this one?’ He refused. ʿAlī said: ‘You are quarrelsome partners. I will cast lots among you. Whichever of you the lot falls upon, the child is his, and upon him is two-thirds of the blood money.’” The Messenger of God ﷺ laughed until his molar teeth appeared. Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: All these hadiths have disordered chains.
