أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ النَّسَائِيُّ عَنْ يَزِيدَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ هَارُونَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنِ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فَرِحَ فَرْحَةً وَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ وَهَبَ ابْنَتَهُ لِرَجُلٍ فَمَاتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بِهَا فَقَالَ مَا سَمِعْتُ فِيهَا شَيْئًا فَقَالَ

الرَّجُلُ لَوْ تَرَدَّدَتُ شَهْرًا مَا سَأَلْتُ عَنْهَا أَحَدًا غَيْرَكَ وَمَا وَجَدْتُ أَحَدًا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهَا غَيْرَكَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَأَقُولُ فِيهَا بِرَأْيِي فَإِنْ أَصَبْتُ فَاللهُ ﷻ يُوَفِّقُنِي أَرَى لَهَا صَدُقَةَ نِسَائِهَا لَا وَكْسَ وَلَا شَطَطَ وَعَلَيْهَا الْعِدَّةُ فقَالَ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ شَهِدْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَضَى بِهَا فَفَرِحَ فَرْحَةً مَا فَرِحَ مَثَلَهَا

✧ A man said, “If I were to go back and forth for a month, I would not ask anyone about it other than you, and I find no one to ask about it other than you.” He said, “I will give my opinion about it. If I am correct, then Allah ﷻ grants me success. I think she should have a dowry like that of her peers, without reduction or excess, and she must observe the waiting period.” Al-Ashjai said, “I witnessed the Prophet ﷺ rule that.” So he rejoiced with a joy the like of which he had not rejoiced.
