✧ Interpretation of the saying of Allah, glorified is His praise: {And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess.} [An-Nisa: 24]

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الرُّهَاوِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ هُوَ الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْخَلِيلِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ أَصَبْنَا سَبْيًا يَوْمَ أَوْطَاسٍ وَلَهُنَّ أَزْوَاجٌ فَكَرِهْنَا

أَنْ نَقَعَ عَلَيْهِنَّ فَسَأَلْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَنَزَلَتْ {وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ إِلَّا مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ} [النساء 24] فَاسْتَحْلَلْنَاهُنَّ أَدْخَلَ قَتَادَةُ بَيْنَ أَبِي الْخَلِيلِ وَبَيْنَ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ أَبَا عَلْقَمَةَ الْهَاشِمِيَّ

✧ We had fallen upon them, so we asked the Prophet ﷺ, and then was revealed: {And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess} [An-Nisa: 24], so we deemed them lawful. Qatadah inserted Abu 'Alqamah al-Hashimi between Abu al-Khalil and Abu Sa'id.
