أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ قَالَ لَطَمْتُ خَادِمًا لَنَا فَقَالَ أَبِي اقْتَصَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعْشَرَ بَنِي مُقَرِّنٍ سَبْعَةً لَيْسَ لَنَا خَادِمٌ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةٌ فَلَطَمَهَا أَحَدُنَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَعْتِقُوهَا» فَقِيلَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لَهُمْ خَادِمٌ غَيْرَهَا قَالَ «لِتَخْدِمْهُمْ فَإِذَا اسْتَغْنَوْا عَنْهَا فَلْيُعْتِقُوهَا» وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ لَيْسَ فِيهِ هَذَا الْكَلَامُ

✧ We, the Banu Muqarrin, were seven, and we had no servant except one. One of us slapped her, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Free her." It was said, "They have no servant besides her." He said, "Let her serve them, and when they can do without her, let them free her." This hadith has also been narrated from another route without this statement.
