أَخْبَرَنِي مَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءٌ أَنَّ جَابِرًا حَدَّثَهُ
قَالَ جَعَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ غُلَامًا لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ مَالٌ غَيْرُهُ حُرًّا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْعَبْدُ «فَبَاعَهُ ثُمَّ أَعْطَى صَاحِبَهُ ثَمَنَهُ»
Translation

✧ He said: A man during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a slave, who was the only property he had, free after his death. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the slave and sold him, then gave his owner his price.
