✧ If he wants to free the slave and his mother, with whom should he start?

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَ وَأَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَوْهَبٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ كَانَ لِعَائِشَةَ غُلَامٌ وَجَارِيَةٌ زَوْجٌ قَالَتْ فَأَرَدْتُ

أَنْ أُعْتِقَهُمَا فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «ابْدَئِي بِالْغُلَامِ قَبْلَ الْجَارِيَةِ» وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنْ أَعْتَقْتِهِمَا فَابْدَئِي بِالرَّجُلِ قَبْلَ الْمَرْأَةِ»

✧ I wanted to manumit them both, and I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: "Start with the slave boy before the slave girl." And Muhammad b. Bashshar said in his narration: The Prophet ﷺ said: "If you manumit them both, start with the man before the woman."
