أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ عَوْفٍ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَدَاةَ الْعَقَبَةِ وَهُوَ وَاقِفٌ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ «هَاتِ الْقُطْ لِي» فَلَقَطْتُ لَهُ حَصَيَاتٍ مِنْ حَصَى الْخَذْفِ فَوَضَعْتُهُنَّ فِي يَدِهِ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ بِهِنَّ فِي يَدِهِ وَصَفَ يَحْيَى تَحْرِيكَهُنَّ فِي يَدِهِ بِأَمْثَالِ هَؤُلَاءِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the morning of al-ʿAqabah while standing on his mount, “Bring me the pebbles.” So I picked up for him pebbles of the size used for kẖadhf and placed them in his hand. He began to move them in his hand—Yaḥyā described him shaking them in his hand—with ones like these.
