✧ Seeking Laylat al-Qadr in the ninth, seventh, and fifth

أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَأَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ

خَرَجَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ لِيُخْبِرَنَا بِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ فَتَلَاحَى رَجُلَانِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «خَرَجْتُ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخْبِرَكُمْ بِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ فَتَلَاحَى فُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ فَرُفِعَتْ وَعَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرًا فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي التَّاسِعَةِ وَالسَّابِعَةِ وَالْخَامِسَةِ» وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ الْمُثَنَّى

✧ The Prophet of Allah ﷺ came out to inform us about Laylat al-Qadr, but two men among the Muslims argued. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I came out wanting to inform you about Laylat al-Qadr, but so-and-so and so-and-so argued, and it was taken away. Perhaps that is better. So seek it in the ninth, the seventh, and the fifth.” The wording is that of Ibn al-Muthanna.
