أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ قَالَ

عَرَّسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِأَوَّلَاتِ الْجَيْشِ وَمَعَهُ عَائِشَةُ فَانْقَطَعَ عِقْدَهَا مِنْ جَزْعِ ظِفَارٍ فَحُبِسَ النَّاسُ ابْتِغَاءَ عِقْدِهَا حَتَّى أَضَاءَ الْفَجْرُ وَلَيْسَ مَعَ النَّاسِ مَاءٌ فَتَغَيَّظَ عَلَيْهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ النَّاسَ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ رُخْصَةَ التَّطَهُّرِ بِالصَّعِيدِ الطَّيِّبِ فَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَضَرَبُوا بِأَيْدِيهِمُ الْأَرْضَ ثُمَّ رَفَعُوا أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَلَمْ يَقْبِضُوا مِنَ التُّرَابِ شَيْئًا فَمَسَحُوا بِهَا وُجُوهَهُمْ وَأَيْدِيَهِمْ إِلَى الْمَنَاكِبِ وَمِنْ بُطُونِ أَيْدِيهِمْ إِلَى الْآبَاطِ خَالَفَهُ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ رَوَاهُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a stop at the beginning of al-Jaysh, and 'A'ishah was with him. Her necklace of Dhifar onyx broke, so the people were detained in search of her necklace until dawn broke, and the people had no water with them. Abu Bakr became angry with her and said: "You have detained the people, and they have no water with them." Then Allah revealed the concession of purifying oneself with clean earth. So the people stood with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and struck their hands on the ground, then raised their hands without grasping any dust, and wiped their faces and hands up to the shoulders, and from the palms of their hands to the armpits. Malik b. Anas disagreed with him; he narrated it from al-Zuhri from 'Ubayd Allah b. 'Abd Allah from his father from 'Ammar.
