✧ Fasting for those who wake up in a state of impurity, and mentioning the differences concerning Abu Huraira in that matter.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مَالِكٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سُمَيٌّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يَقُولُ كُنْتُ أَنَا وَأَبِي عِنْدَ مَرْوَانَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ وَهُوَ أَمِيرُ الْمَدِينَةِ فَذُكِرَ

أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَصْبَحَ جُنُبًا أَفْطَرَ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ قَالَ مَرْوَانُ أَقْسَمْتُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ لَتَذْهَبَنَّ إِلَى أُمَّيِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَائِشَةَ وَأَمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَلْتَسْأَلَنَّهُمَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَذَهَبَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَذَهَبْتُ مَعَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَقَالَ يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنَّا كُنَّا عِنْدَ مَرْوَانَ فَذُكِرَ لَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَصْبَحَ جُنُبًا أَفْطَرَ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ «أَشْهَدُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ جِمَاعٍ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ ثُمَّ يَصُومُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ» ثُمَّ خَرَجْنَا فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَسَأَلَهَا فَقَالَتْ كَمَا قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَخَرَجْنَا حَتَّى جِئْنَا مَرْوَانَ فَذَكَرَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ مَا قَالَتَا قَالَ مَرْوَانُ أَقْسَمْتُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ لَتَرْكَبَنَّ دَابَّتِي فَإِنَّهَا بِالْبَابِ فَلْتَذْهَبَنَّ إِلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَإِنَّهُ بِأَرْضِهِ بِالْعَقِيقِ فَلَتُخْبِرَنَّهُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَرَكِبَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَرَكِبْتُ مَعَهُ حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ فَتَحَدَّثَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ مَعَهُ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ لَهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ لَا عِلْمَ لِي إِنَّمَا أَخْبَرَنِيهِ مُخْبِرٌ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ رَوَاهُ أَبُو قِلَابَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ بِقَوْلِ عَائِشَةَ وَأَمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا كُنْتُ أَحْسِبُ وَلَمْ يُحِلْهُ عَلَى أَحَدٍ

✧ That Abu Hurayrah would say: Whoever wakes up in a state of major ritual impurity has broken his fast for that day. Marwan said: I adjure you, O 'Abd al-Rahman, to go to the Mothers of the Believers, 'A'ishah and Umm Salamah, and ask them about that. So 'Abd al-Rahman went, and I went with him, until we entered upon 'A'ishah. 'Abd al-Rahman greeted her and said: O Mother of the Believers, we were with Marwan, and it was mentioned to him that Abu Hurayrah says: Whoever wakes up in a state of major ritual impurity has broken his fast for that day. 'A'ishah said: 'I testify concerning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he would wake up in a state of major ritual impurity from intercourse, not a wet dream, then fast that day.' Then we left and entered upon Umm Salamah, and he asked her, and she said the same as 'A'ishah said. So we left until we came to Marwan, and 'Abd al-Rahman mentioned to him what they said. Marwan said: I adjure you, O Abu Muhammad, to ride my mount, for it is at the door, and go to Abu Hurayrah, for he is on his land at al-'Aqiq, and inform him of that. Abu Bakr said: So 'Abd al-Rahman rode, and I rode with him, until we came to Abu Hurayrah. 'Abd al-Rahman spoke with him for a while, then mentioned it to him. Abu Hurayrah said: I have no knowledge of it; only an informant told me. Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: Abu Qilabah narrated it from 'Abd al-Rahman b. al-Harith that he informed Abu Hurayrah of the statement of 'A'ishah and Umm Salamah, and he said: This is what I thought, and he did not attribute it to anyone.
