✧ That Abu Hurayrah would say: 'Whoever has a wet dream and knows of his wet dream and does not perform ghusl until morning, he should not fast that day.' He said: Go and ask the wives of the Prophet ﷺ about that. So he went, and I went with him, until he came to 'A'ishah. He greeted at the door and said: A man has a wet dream and knows of his wet dream but does not perform ghusl until morning; should he fast that day? 'A'ishah said: O 'Abd al-Rahman, is there not for you in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a good example? I said: Yes. She said: 'I testify concerning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he would wake up in a state of major ritual impurity without a wet dream, then fast that day.' Then I left until I came to Umm Salamah, and I said to her the same as I had said to 'A'ishah. She said to me the same as 'A'ishah said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wake up in a state of major ritual impurity without a wet dream, then fast. So I came to Marwan and informed him of their statements. The difference among them was hard on him, fearing that Abu Hurayrah was narrating it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Marwan said to 'Abd al-Rahman: I adjure you: go to him and narrate to him: Are you narrating this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said: No, only so-and-so and so-and-so narrated to me. So I returned to Marwan and informed him.
