al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 2929

✧ The fasting of the living from the dead and mentioning the disagreement of those who transmit the news in it.

أَخْبَرَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ دِينَارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ عَنْ زَيْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ نَذْرٍ أَفَأَصُومُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «أَكُنْتِ قَاضِيَةً عَنْ أُمِّكِ دَيْنًا لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَصُومِي عَنْ أُمِّكِ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَرَوَى أَيُّوبُ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ لَا يَصُمْ أَحَدٌ عَنْ أَحَدٍ

✧ A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my mother has passed away and she had a vow to fast. Should I fast on her behalf?" He said, "Were you a debtor for your mother, would you have fulfilled her debt?" She said, "Yes." He said, "Then fast on behalf of your mother." Abu 'Abdur Rahman narrated it and Ayyub bin Musa narrated from 'Ata, from Ibn 'Abbas: "No one can fast on behalf of someone else."
