✧ We went on a military expedition with Abū Ayyūb, and he fasted Ramaḍān and we fasted. When we broke our fast, he stood among the people and said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever fasts Ramaḍān and fasts six days of Shawwāl, it is like fasting the entire age.’” Abu ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: This ʿUtbah b. Abī Ḥakīm is not strong. [241] 2880 – Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Karīm b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ḥuwayṭib b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā al-Ḥarrānī informed me, saying: ʿUthmān – meaning Ibn ʿAmr al-Ḥarrānī – narrated to me, saying: ʿUmar – meaning Ibn Thābit – narrated to us, from Muḥammad b. al-Munkadir, from Abū Ayyūb al-Anṣārī, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said something similar. Abu ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: I saw books with this shaykh on other than this subject, and his ḥadīths resemble the ḥadīths of Muḥammad b. Abī Ḥumayd. He said: I do not know whether his hearing was from Muḥammad or from those shaykhs. As for the shaykh, he used to narrate to us from him and did not mention Muḥammad b. Abī Ḥumayd. If those ḥadīths are his from those shaykhs and he did not hear them from Muḥammad, then he is weak – meaning ʿUthmān – and Muḥammad b. Abī Ḥumayd is worth nothing in ḥadīth.
