✧ The day of Ashura was a day on which Quraysh used to fast in the pre-Islamic era. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast it. When he came to Madinah, he fasted it and commanded fasting on it. Then the fasting of Ramadan was revealed, and Ramadan became the obligation. So whoever wished fasted, meaning Ashura, and whoever wished left it.
