al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 2802

✧ Prohibition of fasting on the day of Eid al-Fitr and the day of Eid al-Adha, and mentioning the differences of al-Zuhri and Sa'id b. Abdullah b. Qarizh with regard to it.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ أَزْهَرَ قَالَ شَهِدْتُ الْعِيدَ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «نَهَى عَنْ صِيَامِ هَذَيْنِ الْيَوْمَيْنِ أَمَّا يَوْمُ الْفِطْرِ فَيَوْمُ فِطْرِكُمْ مِنْ صِيَامِكُمْ وَأَمَّا يَوْمُ الْأَضْحَى فَيَوْمُ نُسُكِكُمْ»

✧ Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited fasting on these two days. As for the Day of Breaking the Fast, it is the day of your breaking the fast from your fasting, and as for the Day of Sacrifice, it is the day of your ritual sacrifice.
