al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 2801

✧ Prohibition of fasting on the day of Eid al-Fitr and the day of Eid al-Adha, and mentioning the differences of al-Zuhri and Sa'id b. Abdullah b. Qarizh with regard to it.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ قَارِظٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ قَالَ

شَهِدْتُ عَلِيًّا وَعُثْمَانَ فِي يَوْمِ النَّحْرِ وَالْفِطْرِ يُصَلِّيَانِ ثُمَّ يَنْصَرِفَانِ فَيُذَكِّرَانِ النَّاسَ وَسَمِعْتُهُمَا يَقُولَانِ «نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَوْمِ هَذَيْنِ الْيَوْمَيْنِ»

✧ I witnessed Ali and Uthman on the Day of Sacrifice and the Day of Breaking the Fast: they prayed, then departed, and reminded the people. I heard them say: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited fasting on these two days."
