✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah said: 'Every deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting; it is for Me, and I give reward for it. Fasting is a shield. So when it is the day of fasting of one of you, he should not engage in obscene speech or raise his voice. If someone insults him or fights him, let him say: I am a fasting person. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the change in the mouth odor of the fasting person is more fragrant to Allah than the scent of musk.'" Abu Abd al-Rahman said: Ibn al-Mubarak is more venerable and higher in our estimation than Hajjaj, and the hadith of Hajjaj is more correct in our view. We do not know in the era of Ibn al-Mubarak a man more venerable than Ibn al-Mubarak, nor higher than him, nor more comprehensive in every praiseworthy trait than him, but error is inevitable. Abd al-Rahman b. Mahdi said: The one who absolves himself of error is insane, and who does not err? The correct name is Dhakwan al-Zayyat, not Ata al-Zayyat. And this hadith was narrated from Abu Hurayrah by Sa'id b. al-Musayyib.
