✧ He said: The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for prayer, and those with him stood. He remained standing for a long time, then bowed for a long time, then raised his head and prostrated for a long time, then raised his head and sat for a long time, then prostrated for a long time, then raised his head and stood. He did in the second rakʿah the same as he had done in the first: standing, bowing, prostrating, and sitting. Then he began to blow during the last prostration of the second rakʿah and weep, saying: "You did not promise me this while I am among them. You did not promise me this while I am among them, and we seek Your forgiveness." Then he raised his head and the sun cleared [344]. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and addressed the people. He praised and extolled Allah, then said: "The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. When you see an eclipse of either of them, hasten to the remembrance of Allah. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, Paradise was brought so near to me that if I had stretched out my hand I could have taken from its clusters, and Hell was brought so near to me that I began to blow at it, fearing it would overwhelm you, until I saw in it a woman from Himyar being punished for a cat she had tied up, not letting it eat from the vermin of the earth; she neither fed it nor gave it water until it died. I saw it bite her when she came forward and when she turned away, biting her buttocks. And I saw in it the owner of the two sandals, the brother of Banu al-Daʿdaʿ, pushing with a two-pronged staff in the Fire. And I saw in it the owner of the hooked staff who used to steal the pilgrims' belongings with his hooked staff, leaning on his hooked staff in the Fire, saying: 'It was the hooked staff that stole.'"
