✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey. When it was the time before dawn, he struck the neck of my mount, and I thought he had a need, so I turned aside with him until he was concealed from the people. He dismounted from his mount and went off, and he disappeared from me until I could not see him. He stayed for a long time, then he came and said, “Do you have water?” I said, “Yes.” So I poured water over him, and he washed his hands, doing it well. Then he washed his face, then he went to pull up his forearms, and he was wearing a Syrian jubbah with tight sleeves, and it was too tight, so he took his hand out from under it. He washed his face and his hands—he said in the hadith: he washed the face twice, but I do not know whether it was like that or not—then he wiped his forelock and wiped over the turban and wiped over the leather socks. Then we mounted.”
