1591 1603 أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُلَيَّةَ قَاضِي دِمَشْقَ وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ
أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ كَانَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ حِينَ قَدِمُوا الْمَدِينَةَ يَجْتَمِعُونَ فَيَتَحَيَّنُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَلَيْسَ يُنَادِي لَهَا أَحَدٌ فَتَكَلَّمُوا يَوْمًا فِي ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ اتَّخِذُوا نَاقُوسًا مِثْلَ نَاقُوسِ النَّصَارَى وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ بَلْ قَرْنًا مِثْلَ قَرْنِ الْيَهُودِ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَوْلَا تَبْعَثُونَ رَجُلًا يُنَادِي بِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا بِلَالُ قُمْ فَنَادِ بِالصَّلَاةِ»

✧ He used to say: When the Muslims came to Madinah, they would gather and wait for the prayer, and no one would call to it. One day they spoke about that, and some of them said: 'Take a bell like the bell of the Christians.' Others said: 'Rather, a horn like the horn of the Jews.' Umar said: 'Will you not send a man to call to prayer?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Bilal, stand and call to prayer.'
