أَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً مَعْنَاهَا أَخْبَرَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ
قُلْنَا لِعَبْدِ اللهِ هَلْ صَحِبَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ لَيْلَةَ الْجِنِّ؟ قَالَ لَمْ يَصْحَبْهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا أَنَا بِتْنَا بِشَرِّ لَيْلَةٍ بَاتَ بِهَا قَوْمٌ إِنَّا افْتَقَدْنَاهُ فَقُلْنَا اسْتُطِيرَ أَوِ اغْتِيلَ فَتَفَرَّقْنَا فِي الشِّعَابِ وَالْأَوْدِيَةِ نَطْلُبُهُ فَلَقِيتُهُ مُقْبِلًا مِنْ نَحْوِ حِرَاءَ فَقُلْتُ بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي بِتْنَا بِشَرِّ لَيْلَةٍ بَاتَ بِهَا قَوْمٌ فَقَالَ «إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي دَاعِي الْجِنِّ فَأَجَبْتُهُمْ أُقْرِئُهُمُ الْقُرْآنَ» وَأَرَانِي آثَارَهَمْ وَآثَارَ نِيرَانِهِمْ
Translation

✧ We said to ʿAbdullāh: Did any of you accompany the Prophet ﷺ on the night of the jinn? He said: “None of us accompanied him except me. We spent the worst night a people ever spent. We missed him and said: He has been snatched away or assassinated. So we dispersed into the mountain passes and valleys searching for him. I met him coming from the direction of Ḥirāʾ. I said: May my father and mother be your ransom, we have spent the worst night a people ever spent. He said: ‘Indeed a caller from the jinn came to me, and I answered them and recited the Qurʾān to them.’ He then showed me their traces and the traces of their fires.”
