أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ هُشَيْمٍ أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ
قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ «اجْتَمَعَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ نِسَاؤُهُ فِي الْغَيْرَةِ عَلَيْهِ» فَقُلْتُ {عَسَى رَبُّهُ إِنْ طَلَّقَكُنَّ أَنْ يُبْدِلَهُ أَزْوَاجًا خَيْرًا مِنْكُنَّ} [التحريم 5] فَنَزَلَتْ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ
Translation

✧ ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb said: “The wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered against him out of jealousy.” So I said: {Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you} [al-Taḥrīm 5], and the like of that was revealed.
