✧ What should a person do if they accidentally skipped two units of prayer and spoke?

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَأَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَانْصَرَفَ فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو أَنَقَصَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟» فَقَالُوا «صَدَقَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ فَأَتَمَّ بِهِمُ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ نَقَصَ» 1155 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ نَحْوَهُ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي هَذَا الْخَبَرَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ وَأَخْبَرَنِيهِ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ وَعُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ

✧ The Prophet ﷺ prayed Zuhr or Asr and gave the salutation after two units, then turned away. Dhul-Shimalayn b. Amr said to him: Has the prayer been shortened or did you forget? The Prophet ﷺ said: “What is Dhul-Yadayn saying?” They said: “He has spoken the truth, O Prophet of Allah.” So he completed the two units that were missing for them. 1155 Abu Dawud informed us, he said: Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us from Salih from Ibn Shihab that Abu Bakr b. Sulayman b. Abi Hathmah informed him that it reached him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed two units and Dhul-Shimalayn said to him something similar. Ibn Shihab said: Sa'id b. al-Musayyib informed me of this report from Abu Hurairah. He said: And Abu Salamah b. Abd al-Rahman and Abu Bakr b. Abd al-Rahman b. al-Harith and Ubaydullah b. Abdullah also informed me of it.
