أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ

كُنْتُ بِأَرْضِ نَجْرَانَ فَسَأَلُونِي فَقَالُوا أَرَأَيْتُمْ شَيْئًا تَقْرَءُونَهُ {يَا أُخْتَ هَارُونَ} [مريم 28] وَبَيْنَ مُوسَى وَعِيسَى مَا قَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ مِنَ السِّنِينَ؟ قَالَ فَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا أُجِيبُهُمْ بِهِ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ «أَلَا أَخْبَرْتَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَمَّوْنَ بِأَنْبِيَائِهِمْ وَالصَّالِحِينَ»

✧ I was in the land of Najran, and they asked me, saying: 'Do you not recite: {O sister of Harun} [Maryam 28], while between Musa and 'Isa there is what you know of years?' He said: 'I did not know how to answer them. When I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I mentioned that to him, and he said: "Why did you not tell them that they used to name their children after their prophets and righteous people?"'
