أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ قَالَ لِي ابْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا خَالَفَتْ ذَلِكَ وَأَبَتْهُ قَالَتْ

مَا وَعَدَ اللهُ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا وَقَدْ عَلِمَ أَنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ حَتَّى مَاتَ وَإِنَّهُ لَمْ تَزَلِ الْبَلَايَا بِالرُّسُلِ حَتَّى ظَنُّوا أَنَّ مَنْ مَعَهُمْ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَدْ كَذَبُوهُمْ قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ فِي حَدِيثِ عُرْوَةَ وَكَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ تَقْرَؤُهَا (ظَنُّوا أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ كُذِّبُوا) مُثَقَّلَةً

✧ God did not promise Muhammad ﷺ anything but that He knew it would come to pass until he died. Tribulations continued to afflict the messengers until they thought that those with them of the believers had belied them. Ibn Abi Mulaykah said in the hadith of 'Urwah: 'A'ishah used to recite it as "they thought that they had been belied" (kudhdhibu), with a doubled consonant.
